About the Society The King's Lynn & District Society of Model Engineers was formed in 1970, to bring together all those in the area interested in Model Engineering.
Trains, planes.... and everything else! Like many Societies, a large portion of our membership is interested in miniature railways, and one of the Club's earliest aims was to build a track to run the models on. Our track at the Lynnsport Leisure Centre site has developed considerably over the past five years and it is open for public rides each Sunday afternoon from Easter to October. Our membership also has a healthy interest in traction engines - which can run within the Railway field - model aircraft, boats, clock making, static engines, tool making... and much more besides! Workshop Facilities The Club has spent the past few years developing a workshop facility, and this is now almost complete. We have a number of hand tools, as well as a mill-drill, lathe and horizontal mill. If you cannot afford, or have the room for, your own workshop, join the Club and you can use the equipment. Not an engineer? If you're not an engineer, don't worry, not all of us are. Some of us just come and play trains, operate the Railway and enjoy the company and drink tea! We're always interested to meet others and welcome them to the Club. If you'd like to join us, please see the Membership page for details Visitors from other Societies We at KLDSME welcome visitors from other Model Engineering clubs, please see our new Visitors page for all the info you will need on how to get in touch and where to find us. Charity The Club helps to support charity, each year a fixed percentage of our ticket revenue is donated to a local charity. 2010's charity is the East Anglian Air Ambulance which is entirely dependant on donations to keep its two helicopter ambulances operational over Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. In 2009 our donation went to the East Anglian Air Ambulance, in 2008 we supported Norfolk and Norwich Association for the Blind, in 2007 we helped the Lynn Heart Support Group and in 2006 we helped Diabetes UK. When the portable track attends a charity fund raising event, a percentage of the takings goes to the fund the event is in aid of.
