Member's Projects

A look at some of our projects undertaken by our members. Although the Railway is a prominent feature of our Club, you will see that this is not all that we do and we welcome all sorts of interests.

Models under construction include a Durham & North Yorkshire Traction Engine in 2" scale. This has been a long-term ongoing project, it was described in Model Engineer volumes 144 to 146.

Gerry's double decker bus Gerry won a gold medal with his model of an "Octopus" lorry at one of the National ME Exhibitions, Sadly he suddenly passed away a couple of years ago.

Gerry also made the double-decker bus, illustrated left. The full size bus is on show at the National Transport Museum, in London.

George's Mill Engine Several members have made Stuart Turner model engines of various kinds as well as other model engineering projects that have been available either as drawings, or complete kits. Fully machined kits can be obtained for those who don't have machine tools.

This Mill engine, and the Beam Engine below, was built by George.

George's beam engine

Beam engines were used to pump out mines. They were also used to pump municipal water supplies.

boat Earlier in its life, the Club also had members interested in boats. While these members have since formed a separate club, there is still an interest within the model engineering side.
plane A number of members have an interest in model aircraft, including working models such as the one illustrated. There is a large open public space adjacent to the Club's grounds and Cabin.

Another member, who sadly died in 2007, enjoyed making workshop tools and some of these are featured here on this page.

David's self powered auxiliary mandrel kit has been demonstrated at club model shows.

David's gearbox

David also produced an alternative to the Norton gearbox, shown on the left.
